The Gaudio family established their family winery on the Mondalino hill - bricco in Italian - in Monferrato in 1973. Here, Beatrice Gaudio crafts a range of deliciuous wines working with the local varieties Barbera, Grignolino, Freisa and the rare Malvasia Nera.
Grignolino is currently enjoying a moment. The grape comes from
Monferrato and the name from the word grignole, which means
seeds/pips, because it has more seeds than most grape varieties, giving the wine
its tannic structure. But its incredibly light in colour, not unlike
a rose' wine, with pale red fruits, floral notes and refreshing acidity.
