Calvarino 5

The first of a series of special wines, Calvarino 5 is a multi vintage blend of their Soave Calvarino.  The Calvarino vineyard, purchased in 1901, was the historical nucleus of the estate and is made from 70% Garganega and 30% Trebbiano grown on volcanic soil.

Comprising of 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 with each vintage aged exclusively in concrete until final blending in 2021.

Made with a blend of fruit from five vintages (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012), Pieropan’s NV Calvarino 5 is a very special wine that recalls local winemaking tradition that once saw multiple vintages used to make a wine. This expression really is spectacular, with an herbal aromatic opening that recalls mint and eucalyptus oil. From there, the bouquet delivers tropical tones and lots of spicy notes of saffron and dried ginger root. I don’t think I have ever encountered a wine quite like this. It sees 10 long years in cement for a silky and creamy mouthfeel. 95 points, Monica Larner
